Video: Questionable Tree as Rappel Anchor

A high anchor point is generally much more comfortable than a low one when transitioning over the edge. So it’s great when there’s a tree close to the edge. But what if the tree is no longer that trustworthy?

Here I’ve set up a system we can use to practice rappelling. Everything is “fixed” in place and will be dismantled from above once we’re finished. So this is not a retrievable system – for that I would simply use a different tree that isn’t questionable.
To basically reinforce the tree, I guyed it backwards using the 8mm Resc Tech. This way, the main load is transferred back to the thick tree. The questionable tree primarily just serves the purpose of being a high anchor point.
