TT W-Pouch WR A5 and A4
This article was sponsored by Tasmanian Tiger. A practical zippered pouch equipped with a transparent window. TT also offers a model without a window. While the zipper design means it’s not completely waterproof, it still provides good protection for electronics and sensitive equipment with its water-repellent properties. Available in Black and Stone-Grey-Olive, which is essentially stone grey but without IRR (Infrared Reflectance).

Here are the two pouches side by side, both in the version with a transparent window. On the left is the A4 version, and on the right is the A5 version. You can see that the usable area is actually larger than the DIN sizes. However, the transparent windows are smaller.
The Construction
The back of the A4 version has no window. Same on the backside of the A5 variant. However, both pouches feature a total of six slots along the edges. More details on how to attach them to bags and backpacks can be found later in this review. The connection between the window film and the nylon appears durable. A small Tasmanian Tiger logo adorns the bottom of the pouches. The transparent foil makes it easy to see the contents, making the pouches useful as phone or tablet cases, as you can operate touchscreens through the window. The zipper is sturdily built, but it is the point where some water might seep in. It’s a fairly stiff spiral zipper.
Examples of use for the W-Pouch A4 WR
It can be used as a robust map case. The map just needs to be folded so that the relevant section is visible through the window. Beim Einstecken der Karte oder Papiere muss man etwas aufpassen, da der Reißverschluss ja nicht über die volle Breite geht. The zipper is sufficient for a small tablet. And through the transparent film, the touchscreen remains fairly usable. Precise clicks can be a bit more challenging, but scrolling and swipe gestures work without any issues.
Examples of use for the W-Pouch A5 WR
It’s great for small items like spare batteries, headphones, ID documents, and similar essentials.
Attachment in Bags and Backpacks
Two toggles with Velcro are included for attachment. The toggles can be threaded through the classic TT Velcro MOLLE as shown: This allows you to hang the W-Pouch securely and also makes it easy to remove when needed. For instance, I used it to keep spare batteries warm in my chest pocket while protecting them from moisture with the W-Pouch A5. The slots for the toggles are a bit wide, so the W-Pouch can unintentionally come loose quite easily. Alternatively, you can loop the toggles in this way: Then, you can secure the W-Pouch with the Velcro. This works quite well in a utility pouch, keeping the W-Pouch in place and easily accessible. And the whole setup is, of course, easily removable as well. Additionally, you can hang the pouch using cord or carabiners if needed 😉
Conclusion
I’ve been using the pouches for months, and I’ve particularly come to appreciate the A5 variant. In winter, I want to keep my batteries warm by carrying them close to my body, but also protect them from sweat and moisture. This pouch seems to be perfect for that purpose. When using the pouch for a tablet or phone, the oversized fit can be a bit of a drawback, as it leaves loose edges and doesn’t offer a snug fit. The fact that the zipper doesn’t run the full width can make it slightly difficult to insert maps and documents. However, since you need some extra room for maneuvering, this is probably the best possible design.
Overall, the impression is excellent. The pouch is well-crafted, with high-quality construction and not a single stitch. The zipper is a bit stiff, but a bit of silicone oil might help with that. The window film is likely to be less durable than the nylon fabric, but so far, it’s holding up well. If you don’t need the window or plan to store tools in the pouch, the version without the window might be the better choice.
