It is immediately noticeable that the balaclava provides generous coverage of the neck area. This ensures the mask stays securely tucked inside the jacket and protects the sensitive skin in that area better.
The balaclava is designed so that you can expose or cover your face.
When covering the face, the seam running from the cheek over the nose ensures a secure fit on the nose.
The opening is large enough to pull the balaclava over a CBRN mask with a filter.
There is some tension at the side seam, but you don’t feel it in terms of comfort. However, it might affect the durability of the balaclava over time.
The mask has an extremely compact pack size.
Under a helmet, hearing protection, and straps, I haven’t experienced any pressure points from the mask. However, I currently have fairly long hair, which cushions parts of my head additionally.
Here’s a photo of the mask in NIR (Near-Infrared). Taken with a modified DSLR camera. It’s lying on an autumnal grassy field with moss and a lot of green. To the right, as a reference, is the DNS Alpha Gore-Tex jacket in Flecktarn. The mask appears very bright.
Conclusion
I have been using the mask for a few months now. The fit is very good. The mask feels like it locks onto the nose. So far, it remains pleasantly elastic.
I really like the generous overlap in the neck area.
I will update this review over time as I wear the mask in different temperatures.
