The Alpine Guide Jacket is a breathable rain jacket made from N80d Gore-Tex Pro, designed for mountain guides and alpine use in general.

  • Water-resistant zippers
  • Helmet-compatible hood

In my opinion, the jacket has a brilliant cut — as we’ve come to expect from Arc’teryx.

The large embroidered Arc’teryx logo is, of course, a must.

The shoulder area has no seam on top, but one in front and one behind.

The front zipper is a high-quality molded tooth zipper with an internal flap. The narrow seam tape used for sealing again reflects the high level of workmanship.

Under the arms are ventilation zippers.

The ventilation has a balanced size, and the two sliders allow precise adjustment of the opening width.

The sleeve cuffs are adjustable with Velcro.

Pockets

On the front, you have two chest pockets. These do not interfere with the climbing harness.

Inside, the pockets feature attachment loops with plastic hooks — great for securing keys, radios, or other gear.

On the right-hand side, there’s an inner chest pocket with a zipper.

The Hood

To be fully usable in alpine environments, the hood is of course compatible with climbing helmets.

The top section is signal orange, which makes the jacket stand out more than a fully red one.

At the back is a drawcord that runs around the head, securing the hood well.

Below that, there’s a second drawcord to keep the hood from falling into your face when not wearing a helmet.

Around the face opening, there’s an additional drawcord to prevent wind from entering the hood. It uses low-profile, integrated cord locks — visible here as a small black square with rounded corners.

The colors are designed for better visibility. Especially the orange on the hood sets the jacket apart from civilian jackets. Here’s a photo of the red jacket surrounded by lots of greenery.

Conclusion

A high-quality rain jacket that reliably protects against wet weather. The craftsmanship is as excellent as ever, and Arc’teryx clearly knows what a jacket needs to meet alpine demands. I especially love the fit.

A unique feature of Arc’teryx PRO is that printed jackets can be ordered for units. Just get in touch for that.

I’ll be updating this review over time as I get more wear time with the jacket.
