Video: Rappelling on Broomstick
Recently, I showed an emergency rappel using a door anchor made from two crutches and two broomsticks in a reel. This video, which was intended more as entertainment, raised a few questions. One of them: How much load can a broomstick actually take as a door anchor? I tested it and explained the it in this video:
The video also shows load tests where I measured the breaking strength using a Linescale 3: https://www.linegrip.com/linescale-3/
The result was that with the Dyneema sling placed to the side, the first broomstick broke at 2.84 kN and the second at 3.4 kN. Out of curiosity, I tested the second one again with the sling placed in the center. That time, the broomstick broke at only 0.98 kN!
But of course a broomstick is far away from being a safe anchor point!
